When confirming absences there should be a comment area where you can provide details such as child was called down to student services.
There should be a detail area where you can provide info about the absence or non- absence in some cases. I have had instances with both of my sons where I get notified that they missed a class and it has proven to be either the wrong student was marked (verified by teacher) or my son was called out of the class for a meeting with the guidance counsellor about course selection or another similar issue. I am sure that our family can't be the only one this happens to. If I say No I wasn't aware of the absence then it is assumed my child was skipping. If I say Yes I was aware then I have to give a reason that doesn't necessarily fit the situation.

Agreed. One of my children left early on a school ski trip before regular school hours, and I got a notification that she was absent from school in the afternoon?! Inter-school MFR communication should be smoother to avoid inaccurate reporting and potential panic. If my child is on a *school field trip* she is in fact, not absent.
