actually use our preferences when notifying us about bus cancellations
I do not understand why after years of getting text messages for bus cancellations I am not getting phone calls

Stop using the "Urgent" Notification type for board-wide bus cancellations
"Urgent" notifications should only be for Urgent issues that are not covered by the other contact preference types. There is specifically a "Bus Cancellation" type.

Please note that we are aware of excessive notifications due to a technical issue.
The issue has since been resolved, and normal operation of 1 notification per student per selected contact preference should resume.

Latency/responsiveness is related to a number of different reasons. We do apologize for any access issues you may have had, when these issues arise we do our best to resolve them as quick as possible.

Removed from system
I no long have children within this school board as we moved out of province. I want to be able to disable all notifications and they are not relevant to me. Such as bus cancellations. I’ve requested that these stop but I keep getting them. I want to disable my whole account so these stop.

Give parents more than 48 hours to register for an event
Allow at least 2 weeks to register for pizza days

School events are set up and scheduled by each school and may differ from one school to the other. If you have questions about you school’s events, please contact your child’s office administrator or principal.

Post all emails to my family room please
I would like to see all emails pertaining to the current year, that were sent to host families and parents posted here as none were provided to me for the start of the year.
There are things I should be doing in relation to Covid and I have no Idea what or how.1 voteThank you for your feedback. You may also want to check your SPAM folder to ensure that messages aren’t going there.

Student was not absent, student was less than 10 minutes late and was marked absent for the class.
Student was marked absent, but just missed attendance as they were 10 minutes late. Teacher did not confirm student was in attendance.
1 voteIn situations like this, it is best that your contact your school directly. You may want to talk to the teacher or your school principal with your concerns.

Can "Self-isolation" or "awaiting COVID results" be an absence reason? I have been marking my child ill which is inaccurate.

My child has been home two different occasions for multiple days, self-isolating as a sibling has presented with a possible COVID symptom. Siblings cannot return to school until a negative test is confirmed, which is now taking close to a week with the backlog

Due to the confidential nature of COVID related cases, we cannot provide absence codes related to COVID as we are not to be able to identify individual students with COVID or who are self-isolating. This is a privacy / confidentiality requirement.
If your child is off due to self-isolation or waiting for COVID results , or has tested positive, please contact your school directly/immediately.

Why does a Grant day show as an absence?
Should it not be marked as an absence and just put as a side note.

Beginning of Day Times
The earliest time in the drop down list starts at 10 am. However, school starts at 8 am. Can you start the drop down list at 8:30??
For example, my son has a dentist appointment at 9 am. He will only be absent from 8:45 - 9:30 am - however, there is no way to enter this as the absent start time is 10 am.

Only notify once per family address when the buses are cancelled
Only notify once per family address if school is cancelled. I get 5 messages each time the buses are cancelled.

During exam periods exceptions for students to leave the premises after they are complete

Fix your app
I've had trouble with the app, click on a link for example to Mark as Read, and it just keeps spinning away. I have to close it down completely. Can the links be updated for faster response?

Online debit payments from banking institutions would be a great option!
Love the online payment. But using PayPal means putting money on your credit card. It would be great to have the option to pay online directly from your banking institution using an online debit feature.

At this time we do not plan to change the method for online payments. In order to allow additional payment options, it would be required for the UCDSB to store confidential financial information for parents. This is considered a security risk. We may consider changing the payment method in the future.

This is a fabulous suggestion.
Currently, it is the school that would be able to add this to your child’s calendar and you can then view it in My Family Room.
We suggest connecting with your school to add this to the calendar.
Also, as we are starting the rollout of online payments this school year, if you elect to pay for school events – including school lunches online – the details for the event will appear in the calendar.
You will have to 2 ways for your school to update the calendar for you to view online.

Enhance the App
The phone application only has notifications and calendars as features. It would be great if all the features of the site were included in the app. We're a mobile society. An option for a monthly calendar view like the desktop site would be great too, maybe with some filters to filter out items that are not applicable. For instance, my son will be in kindergarten, so I'm not interested in seeing when secondary school exams are.

The calendar features are available on the My Family Room mobile app. Updating the calendar with school information and events is for each individual school to maintain.
If you wish to see the school information and events, please contact your school and ask they add school activities to the calendar.

Update Calendar
It would be great if the calendar was updated during the summer with upcoming dates. It would help parents (especially new ones) know key dates and enable them to plan their schedules better. For example, the first day of school should be in there, next year's summer break, Christmas holidays, etc...I would assume these are all dates the school already know in advance but would help parents plan better.

The school year calendar events are available in the My Family Room now – e.g. PD Days, Holidays, …etc…
School specific events and activities need to be added by each individual school. If you wish to see this information please contact your school.

Enable bus cancellation notification to mobile phone
I get all sorts of emails during the day and night. Bus cancellations simply get lost in all of that. I would really enjoy seeing an option for bus cancellations to be texted to my mobile phone. I would most definitely catch the distinctive ring as opposed to all of the emails that come in.
1 voteThis functionality already exists in My Family Room. You need to log into the website at https://myfamilyroom.ca .
Navigate to your PROFILE tab, EDIT and scroll down to the CONTACT PREFERENCES. In there you can choose how you receive the bus notifications.
